Amazon joins the tablet fight…
Early last week the tech media was buzzing with the news of Amazon’s unveiling of its new Kindle tablet.
Industry experts are naming it ” the tablet that will shake up the industry and pose one of the biggest threats to the Apple iPad”. Pretty strong billing and the reason why the tech world has its eyes on the online retailer ahead of its media gathering in New York this week.
So why the high praise?
Well Amazon has brand recognition, a bevy of existing loyal Kindle e-reader owners, and a Web-based e-commerce platform that includes one-click access to buying e-books, movies, digital music downloads, its own Android app store, and streaming media catalog. Pretty mean credentials that add up to Amazon being uniquely suited to go head-to-head with Apple in the tablet market and a potentially formidable competitor across the industry.
Who’ll win? My moneys on Apple but thats what brand loyalty does to you… totally clouds your view of the fight.
Whatever happens competition is great for consumers and presents even more marketing opportunities to businesses using App technology so bring it on.
